I no longer have to set my alarm clock...my dogs are up at 4:30 am every morning ready to go...only one gets his "purse"(contains those little blue bags), the other his electronic collar or check cord. Unfortunatly the one with the purse will be left behind. Mr. Wilson (our Britanny) and I head out on our 40 minute drive to the training field to meet up with Tony Marquez. Setting up for the morning sessions starts with the pounding in of stakes, hooking the dogs on the chain gang, making sure everyone has water,(and coffee) getting all the equipment and birds prepared. This has all been part of the training for me. I didn't just want to have a bird dog I needed to be able to handle one as well. Then Mr. Wilson gets his turn. We start at the edge of the field. The dogs are all excited and ready to go. I follow behind my dog and close to Tony...constantly listen and learning as he instructs/corrects Mr. Wilson and I. I have learned so much over the past 3 months and Mr. Wilson is becoming a fine bird dog. Tony knows how to handle the dogs and the handlers. He takes the time to learn what you expect and want from you dog. Tony can read the dogs, some are light to the touch and other are strong headed and stubborn. I still have alot to learn and so does Wilson. We can't thank Tony enough for getting us this far already. We can't wait for our first official hunt! I guess I better practice my shooting!
Thanks for everything Tony!
Wendy and Mr. Wilson
